Antawn Jamison scored 30 points and added 12 rebounds as the Washington Wizards beat Toronto 106-102 yesterday, sending the Raptors to their fourth loss in a row. Gilbert Arenas had 22 points and nine rebounds while Caron Butler added 19 points and seven rebounds in his 500th career NBA game to pace the Wizards (6-10). Brendan Haywood chipped in with 15 points and nine rebounds as Washington won for the third time in four games. Chris Bosh scored 18 of his 22 points in the second quarter and added 14 rebounds for the Raptors (7-12), who lost for the eighth time in the past 10 games. And just like in every other loss during that string, Toronto was undone by an uneven second-half performance in front of 15,776 at the Air Canada Centre.
Coming into the game, the Raptors had been outscored in the second half in nine straight games, going 2-7 over that span. Things looked more promising last night, as Toronto quickly erased a one-point halftime deficit and led by four midway through the third.
The Wizards finished at 48 per cent shooting compared to just 42 for the Raptors , but the major difference was in the fourth quarter, where Washington shot 11-for-16 from the field.
Toronto went just 8-for-23 over the final 12 minutes.
