Toronto Raptors Notes, Quotes 2008-10-22
--Because of luxury tax concerns, the Raptors will go with a 13-man roster this season. That could mean a heavy workload for some and create injury worries from the very first game.

--After being known as one of the NBA's most internationally-flavored teams, Toronto starts the season with just two players -- Jose Calderon and backup point guard Roko Ukic -- who weren't trained in North America. They lost a lot of global influence with the departures of Jorge Garbajosa (bought out), Carlos Delfino (free agent) and Rasho Nesterovic (trade).

MAIN REASON RAPTORS CAN WIN: In Chris Bosh and Jermaine O'Neal, the Raptors figure to have one of the most powerful frontcourts in the conference. O'Neal provides an anchor to what has been a porous interior defense, which has been the team's Achilles' heel for two seasons.

MAIN REASON RAPTORS CAN LOSE: The acquisition of O'Neal was a gamble, given his recent history of injury woes. If he goes down for an extended period of time or is only a shell of his former self, it's going to be huge trouble for Toronto.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "If we stay healthy, we have a chance to be good, very, very good." -- Coach Sam Mitchell, on the team's chances.
