After losing free-agent guard Anthony Parker to Cleveland, the Raptors didn't waste any time filling his spot.
The Raptors gave a four-year, $20 million offer sheet to Indiana restricted free-agent guard Jarrett Jack. The Pacers, who didn't want to pay Jack any more than an average of $4 million per year, did not match it. So Jack will step in as the backup behind starting point guard Jose Calderon. He could be the starting shooting guard if team brass doesn't believe rookie DeMar DeRozan is ready for that role at the beginning of the season.
"After having a breakout season last year for Indiana, we are very pleased to have Jarrett Jack join the Toronto Raptors organization," said Toronto general manager Bryan Colangelo. "Jarrett's size and strength, coupled with his playmaking instincts and ability to defend both guard positions make him a perfect addition to our roster."
Signing Jack is yet another move by the Raptors to try to keep star forward Chris Bosh, who can become a free agent and bolt Toronto next summer, happy. Jack was a teammate of Bosh's at Georgia Tech.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Jack, who just completed his fourth season, averaged a career-high 13.1 points last season as well as 4.1 assists and 3.4 rebounds. He was acquired by Indiana last summer after spending his first three seasons with Portland.
